Value of M&A plunges by 99% y/y in Q2.

Value of M&A plunges by 99% y/y in Q2. The total volume of M&A deals in Hungary amounted to EUR 50mn in Q2, business daily Vilaggazdasag cited a Thomson Financial report. It tumbled sharply by 99% y/y. This was attributed to an unusually strong comparison base due to the oil MOL acquisition of chemical company TVK as well as to Austrian OMV boosting its stake in MOL on its hostile takeover attempt. Otherwise, there were 25 M&A transactions in total in Q2, falling by just 17% y/y. Large deals with transfer of MOL shares to the Oman Oil Company and the sale of OTP’s insurance unit OTP Garancia were accounted for in Q1.
