Foreign investment in Qatar increases seven times in six years.

Foreign investment in Qatar increases seven times in six years. Foreign investment in Qatar increased almost seven times from 2000 to reach USD 1.8bn in 2006, the Qatar Statistics Authority said in a report. As a result of the increase, the ratio of foreign direct investment FDI to GDP almost doubled in the same period to reach 3.2%. Foreign investment increased due to the flexibility in legislative frameworks in financial services, real estate and communications sectors, as well as economic growth, which rose over 20% in the past two years, the report added. Cash remittances for immigrant workers rose to USD 7.9bn in 2005 from USD 5.5bn in 2001, to form 7.2% of Qatar 's GDP.
