Poverty rate in Moroccan rural areas drops to 21%.





Poverty rate in Moroccan rural areas drops to 21%. Morocco's Minister of Social Development, Family and Solidarity, Nouzha Skalli, said that the poverty rate in rural areas targeted by the country's National initiative for human development (INDH), dropped from 36% to 21% in 2007. The HCP survey, which covered 7,200 households throughout the country, noted the significant impact of INDH in targeting local communes between 2004 and 2007. The overall rate in Morocco dropped during the same period by 6.3%, standing at 9% as against 15.3%, the survey reported. Launched in 2005, the INDH is designed to alleviate poverty, vulnerability, marginalization and social exclusion in Morocco .
