Enterprises see worsening of business climate, fear strong zloty.

Enterprises see worsening of business climate, fear strong zloty. Over 900 enterprises surveyed by the National Bank of Poland (NBP) assessed in March the current economic situation as slightly worse than the one a quarter earlier, with forecasts for Q2/2008 palpable worsening, the central bank said in a report. Least optimistic were the assessments of representatives of export-based industries. The continuously appreciating zloty seems to be the main obstacle - the percentage of those perceiving the zloty’s exchange rate as a barrier for their development grew by 2.7pps q/q to 17.7%. Other problems were related to growing prices of crude materials and other elements used in production - up by 1.4% q/q to 14.7%, which is the highest level since 1999, when the NBP started its research on the issue. At the same time, the problem with finding appropriate workforce has been diminishing for the second quarter in a row - this time by 0.8pps to 10.9% of the surveyed. tom
