Fitch: banking system’s assets quality deteriorates since Q3/07.

Fitch: banking system’s assets quality deteriorates since Q3/07. Fitch said that the banking system’s assets quality deteriorated since Q3/07. Fitch considered that the main reasons for the quality fallen were slower growth of loan portfolio, tighter corporate liquidity, falling real estate prices and potential pressure on the national currency KZT. Fitch noted that loan impairment ratios rose the most markedly at Alliance Bank, Bank Caspian and Kazkommertsbank. However, the agency considers that the loss absorption capacity of the banking system on the whole is significant. This reflects sound profitability of the banks and capital ratios that are above minimum levels set by the regulator. Fitch also warned that the continuation of acceleration of recent deterioration in assets may result in downgrades of individual ratings of some banks.
