Cash management debate: The tricky path to standardization

Jack Large (chairman – JL) is a partner at J&W Associates and is an independent consultant working in cash and treasury management and payment cards. He provides consultancy services and training seminars for financial institutions, payment system companies and multinational corporations.

Sonia Rossetti (SR) is European head for cash and cards, transaction banking at ABN Amro in London, responsible for payables, receivables and commercial cards solutions. Previously, she was head of Europe Refocus Transaction Banking Europe, a group that looked at the changing environment in Europe, working on new strategic product solutions and integration initiatives.

Michael Thom (MT) deals with retail issues, consumer policy and payment systems at the European Commission. He has more than 20 years’ EC experience. He led the team negotiating the Payment Services Directive and is now responsible for Sepa. He has an honours degree in mathematics from Cambridge and an MBA (KUL-Belgium).

Rajesh Mehta (RM) is the cash management head for Citi’s global transaction services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, responsible for cash management and treasury solutions to customers including multinational corporations, local companies, small and medium-sized enterprises and financial institutions.

Ian Johnson (IJ) is European treasurer for Merck & Co, Inc, one of the world’s largest pharmaceuticals companies.  He is responsible for international treasury services within EMEA and for Merck’s in-house bank.  

Darsh Johal (DJ) is the head of global cash management at Shell Treasury Centre Ltd. His responsibilities include managing cash management bank relationships, contract management, implementation and strategy. Before joining Shell, he worked for Bank of America and Mobil Oil.

Martyn Smith (MS) has been director of tax and treasury at Dyson since July 2001. Previously he spent eight years as group treasurer at Delta plc. Dyson is a privately owned company based in Malmesbury, UK. It operates across the world, with only about 20% of its $1 billion-plus turnover generated in the UK.

Pia Nyblom Paldeak (PNP) is director and group working capital manager at AB Volvo. She has overall responsibility for working capital management in the Volvo Group and works together with the different business areas and business units. She has worked for Volvo since 1988, mainly in finance and treasury, at group and business area/business unit level.

Robin Terry (RT) is the European head of sales for corporate and institutional banking, trade & payments and cash management at HSBC. Based in London, he and his team are responsible for sales of transactional banking products to the group’s largest clients based across Europe. He has been with the HSBC Group for more than 28 years.

Bart Ivens (BI) is in charge of global sales payments and cash management within ING Wholesale Banking. He started his career in 1985 with Bank Brussels Lambert, currently part of ING. He was responsible as head global clients and area manager for the Nordic countries, followed by an assignment in financial markets where he became head of sales.
