The wrong trousers

Bavarian structured finance banker's national dress accidently arrives in suitcase packed for glittering awards do

This year’s Oktoberfest festival was well under way in Munich as this issue of Euromoney went to press.

The traditional scenes of vast tents crammed full of vast people drinking vast amounts of beer are as German as, well, a gleaming pair of lederhosen.

And a gleaming pair of lederhosen is exactly what one Bavarian structured finance banker found when he unpacked his suitcase to attend (and collect a gong at) a glittering London awards ceremony held by one of Euromoney’s sister publications. As he had carefully hung his Oktoberfest suit next to his tuxedo in the wardrobe, it is perhaps not surprising that his wife had mistakenly packed the wrong one for the big night. With just an hour to go, and no prospect of being able to rent a replacement (this was London after all) an M&A colleague was hastily despatched home to find something – anything – for his German friend to wear. The moral of the story is a) always keep all items of national dress at the opposite end of the house to attire necessary for important work functions and b) always pack your own bag.
