Celebs dumb down the euro

Forget proper arguments, who's got the best celebs on their side? This is what the euro vote is coming to in the UK as the two camps draw up their campaigns.
The "yes" camp has lined up such economic heavyweights as agony aunt Claire Rayner, comedian Eddie Izzard (pictured above), and singer Billy Bragg. Izzard cares passionately about the UK's role in Europe but was unable to speak to Euromoney, as he was busy playing with euros in France.
The "no" camp is ready to counter with comedian Harry Enfield, musician and world poverty campaigner Bob Geldof, comedian Vic Reeves, and Gordon Ramsay, a chef famous for being nasty to his staff. The noes say their celebrities all have strong opinions but curiously could not outline to Euromoney what their objections to the single currency are. The no campaign has already hit UK cinema screens with advertisements featuring Hitler impersonations and brief interviews with disgruntled eurozone citizens.

This is a profound ethical issue. These are very sophisticated operations where the counterparty was not a hedge fund – it was not even a financial institution. Should a grocery chain be selling volatility protection?
