Anyone for a Land Rover?

by Julie Dalla-Costa

Investec Asset Management is celebrating its success in UK managed funds by offering punters the chance to win a Land Rover. To win, entrants must answer four questions about the firm's Cautious Managed and Managed Distribution Funds.

Investec is also offering a Land Rover Driving Experience to 15 runners up. This entails a day spent driving off-road and a night at Hartwell House in Buckinghamshire.

But there may be a hitch, if a survey by Warranty Direct, a UK personal warranty company, is to be believed. It says Land Rovers are the cars most likely to break down.

Land Rover has the highest number of failures according to the insurer's study of 30,000 vehicles by 27 manufacturers. In fact, Warranty Direct says 46% of Land Rovers are likely to break down.

It's also one of the more expensive cars to get repaired. The survey ranks them third worst when reliability and the cost of repair are combined.

For its part, Land Rover says the cars assessed in the survey were older models. "Since then we've either replaced or significantly updated every model they've talked about," it says.

That will be a relief to Investec and its eventual prize winners.
